A little while ago I took my 2005 Cadillac Escalade which I had recently purchased to the local Cadillac and GMC dealer in Concord North Carolina. That dealer happened to be Ben Mynatt Cadillac. Well, anyway, the vehicle was in brand-new shape and I had just bought it from an elderly individual that had kept immaculate service records on the vehicle. It had had every service, maintenance and even oi change done and documented by a nearby South Carolina Cadillac dealer.
My Cadillac Escalade ran beautfully with no problems whatsoever and was a complete creampuff if you’ve ever seen one. So I took it to the local dealer to have an inspection done. It took over three hours before they ever even got to my vehicle. Then the service advisor (we might as well refer to him as the service LIEvisor) took me aside and told me there were some things he had to go over with me. He took me into the gar area where my vehicle was up on the lift and proceeded to tell me that I had a blown head gasket, a bad oil pan, and a bad oil leak.

Since the vehicle was up on the lift I asked him to point to me where the oil was leaking from because the engine was spotless. I showed this service advisor and his mechanic that there was no oil to be found anywhere around the engine both from looking at it from underneath and from looking at it from above when they lowered the lift. The service advisor then consulted with his mechanic by taking him aside and they whispered for about a minute. Then he came back and told me that the oil leak with microscopic and that you wouldn’t be able to see it. That had to be the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard in my life.
He then proceeded to tell me that the repairs that were necessary on my vehicle would run almost $9000! I told him that he must have been on crack. I showed them the service records of the vehicle and that the vehicle ran fine and that I only brought in here to get an inspection done. I didn’t come in to get short sheeted or fleeced or whatever you want to refer to it as. Upon hearing this service advisor got mad turned and left me in the garage with the mechanic. I then looked at the mechanic and said I wasn’t born yesterday I have worked in car dealerships for years.
Why was he trying to pull a expensive fast one over on me? The mechanic hung his head low and said that cars like this last for many years and there was no significant problems with the vehicle. In other words his service advisor buddy was full of crap. Maybe things were slow that day, may be the economy was getting to him or maybe he was under the weather that day, but regardless whatever the reason was that was outright fraud. The mechanic finished the inspection of my vehicle and of course it passed 100% with flying colors and I paid the cashier for the inspection and I will never go back to that car dealership ever again.
Where do people like that service advisor get off ripping off people with unnecessary repairs and recommendations like that? I sent a letter to the dealer later that week telling him of the terrible and fraudulent experience I had in their service department. To this day I have not received any communication from this dealership except for some service reminders and similar. All I can say is stay away from BenMynatt Cadillac and GMC as you are guaranteed to get ripped off there!

Wow. That is one sketchy sounding car dealer. I am from Kannapolis and we have many Ben Mynatt stores nearby. I will be sure and avoid them and take my vehicles elsewhere. Thanks for the tip.

Ben Mynatt is a great car dealership. The cars are always clean, the price is right and we have a great location in downtown Concord. Bring your friends and family and buy a car today – you’ll be glad you did – besides we need your business.
