Cash America Pawn tried to rip me off - Quik Pawn gave me literaly 10 times more money for my old gold jewelry!
When I was cleaning up my house for a garage sale I found that I had a lot of old
unused gold jewelry and some diamond jewelry that has been in the family for a long time that I no longer used or needed. I have seen the show on TV called Pawn Stars and how they were honest and pretty good about giving people fair prices on their stuff for sale. So I figured I would take these items to the closest pawn shop (Cash America Pawn) on Freedom drive here in Charlotte NC.
When I got there it looked like they had a lot of junk for sale and it didn’t look anything like the store in Pawn Stars. So I showed them my jewelry and they asked me if I wanted to pawn or sell. I told him sell because I didn’t need a loan or anything like that. I told him that these items had been in the family for a long time and that I could probably use the cash rather than letting them sit and collect dust.
There were three diamond rings one of which had a beautiful 1 carat diamond in it. There were several gold chains and bracelets. One of the gold chains was a very heavy herringbone chain and it had a slight bend in it probably could’ve easily been repaired. Most of it was in really good shape and just needed polishing and cleaning.
After looking at everything for a while the idiot at Cash America Pawn offer me next to nothing for everything. It was unbelievable. I am not stupid and I know that these items were all solid gold and the diamonds were real and of high quality. In this market the wholesale value of these items should have been at least several thousand dollars.
What did the idiot at Cash America Pawn offer me for the whole assortment? $200! He wouldn’t even budge the slightest bit. This guy was a complete jackass! He was hoping that I was so hard up that I needed that $200 that I would be okay with being ripped off massively with his $200 offer! Unbelievable!
I put all my stuff back in the box and left. The next day I went to another pawn shop on Freedom drive called Quik Pawn. I show them the same exact jewelry that I showed Cash America Pawn. Without blinking the manager offered me $2100 for the whole lot. I was originally hoping to get around $3000. But I am reaqsonable and understand that the pawn dealers are in business to make money and that they need to make some profit. So we settled at $2200 – $2000 more then the idiot at Cash America Pawn offered me for the exact same set of jewelry.
I know the guy at Quik Pawn is going to turn around and sell these things for probably $4,000 to $5000 or more, but there was no need for the jackass at Cash America Pawn to try and rip me off and offer me sold little for real gold jewelry! If you are in Charlotte North Carolina and have stuff to sell like gold jewelry definitely don’t take it to Cash America Pawn. Instead take it to Quik Pawn on Freedom Drive! They literally gave me 10 times more money for the same exact collection of jewelry!
