Got a “call” from these creeps. Of course no one leaves a message or is even on the line, apparently they are just as interested in harassing decent honest people as they are stealing money (even if they can hide under some legal veil). Tried to call the number back but get a message stating “the call cannot be completed as dialed.” As far as I am concerned, that is proof enough it’s a bonafied scam.

All of you are right on track. I used to work for this foundation and they are crooks. They also treat there employees like crap. They offered bonuses but you would never get them even if you deserved it. If they dont like the money your bringing in that day they send you home early. I think they might give out very little of the baskets just to make it legite but its no where near the 15,000 that is stated on the website, its more like 15 – and I should know, I worked there for quite some time. The Childhood Leukemia Foundation is a definite scam!

I agree with everyone above EXCEPT the CEO of Childhood Leukemia Foundation. You see, I have been a graphic designer since 1986. I started out on a drafting board and, moving to the digital age and web sites and stuff…it’s EXTREMELY easy to make a website look great…legit…so people can’t go by a charity’s website when deciding to donate to them. I know that this hasn’t been a topic yet, but it should be. People and companies do have to pay for site design and maintenance.
On a personal note, the people at CLF repeatedly harassed my family for about 2 years, and I finally encouraged my family to take matters in their own hands—get proactive you might say. Today, reports were filed against CLF with the BBB and with the Attorney General’s office in our state (one of the most stringent in the nation) Let me put it this way, our AG’s office is known for going out for blood. If you all would mosey on over to the BBB and read how the BBB has on several occasions asked CLF to file a report on accountability (which they have not done). Read the complete request yourself here, near the middle at: http://www.bbb.org/charity-reviews/national/health/childhood-leukemia-foundation-in-brick-nj-1546
Yes, on the CLF site, they have some lovely testamonials, supposedly from nurses at hospitals thanking them for something called a “hope binder,” (a great idea) and a couple of Wii consoles. To make it look even better, the logos of the hospitals are also thrown in. Good marketing here (I was also in Marketing as well, so I know how that works). I hope that those are all real. I hope that these children have really been helped.
But one must call into question ALL that one sees is claimed by a charity, especially one that won’t comply with a simple request (made repeatedly) by the BBB.
I was just going to walk away, and do the Christian thing, i.e. “forgive and forget.” But I am certainly glad I didn’t do that. This charity’s practices, which seem shadier the more I read, are screaming for an investigation. Let’s hope. If CLF is legit, then they don’t have anything to worry about and they will welcome the audit or investigation. But…if they throw a hissy fit, there’s our answer. Let’s stay tuned.
By the way, it would cost about $15 to $20 max to produce the binder. I mean, a 3″ binder is about $3.25 at Office Max (I just checked their site), then printing the contents depends on how much is in the print run. The cost could be as low as $8 or $9 (maybe even lower?) apiece, completed, since they are tax exempt. They may even get a great deal on bulk pricing.

If Barbara Reid-Haramis really thinks we buy her claim, why doesn’t she post her financial audits on line. Seems to be missing from the site, yet The leukemia @ Lymphoma Society posts theirs for the past 10 years.
Just got a phone call from them requesting money. Asked them to drop the lit in the mail “oh that would cost too much”.
When they call HANG UP!

Barbara, congratulations…you have gone from 1 star to zero!
I actually just spoke with this charity about helping them raise money and when I asked them about where all their money goes, they ended the conversation.
Please avoid at all costs.

I clicked on the BBB link (above) and the BBB gives them a good rating. About 3/4 of their funding goes to the program. The CEO’s salary of 151,000 includes all benefits, not just wages. On the downside, they call every few days about my donation. (which I agreed to in a moment of weakness – a good friend had just died of cancer). I don’t want to give anymore money since there are other deserving causes out there and I’m concerned I might get called constantly because of one, relatively small donation.

I was also called by a paid solicitor representing Childhood Leukemia Foundation and wanted me to send a donation, followed up by a letter from Gift Processing Center, 3050 Union Lake Rd. Ste. 8F, Commerce Township. MI 48382, 866-202-8221. They also asked for a extra $2 donation added on to my initial pledge. I’m sure glad I looked them up Report Your Complaint.com. Thanks!

This is a bogus charity.I donated and they called recently to solicit another donation. I told them I had contributed and they claim they had no record. I stated I only give one time only for a particular charity. They also have another bogus charity for breast cancer which I donated. Never again will I donate money to telemarketing agents or any that solicit by phone, only to the charities I know of.

This is one of those charities that preys on the elderly who cannot afford to give. They called the phone number of my disabled parents who are in their 80s and on fixed income. Although my parents would like to give, they absolutely cannot but this charity continues to harass them with more phone calls in an effort to break them down. These types of leeches just sicken me. A bona fide charity would never do this.
