My 2 year old son has had many ear infections since he was a little baby. We have been to many doctor appointments and have been given antibiotics to get rid of the infections. After we brought him to the last doctor’s appointment, they advised that he have tubes put into his ears. I was curious and a little hesitant because I didn’t know much about what the surgery would consist of.
The doctor advised us highly to have the surgery performed because if not he would have more problems with his hearing and such. We had scheduled the surgery for the following week so that he would not be in pain for much longer. As we were at the hospital we were in the waiting room for about a half hour and then we were called in the recovery room.
We were happy to see our son out of the surgery and recovering from the surgery. I know it isn’t the biggest surgery but it was his first procedure he had to go through. When we were talking to the nurses they had told us that we would be getting ear drops that would need to be put into his ears every night. I really wasn’t sure how he would respond to these but I knew it had to be done.
After we got done with the procedure at the hospital, we needed to go to the pharmacy to get fill the prescription for the ear drops. We have our prescriptions filled at CVS pharmacy so we headed right there to get that filled. When we arrived at CVS they weren’t that busy at all which meant that we would be able to wait for the prescription and then head home for the night.
When our name was called we headed to the counter and picked up the ear drops. As we picked up the prescription, the woman working the counter told us that he should be getting the drops placed in his ears nightly. Then she asked us if we had any questions and I assumed that there was nothing else that we needed to know.
We had then left CVS pharmacy and headed home for the night and to give our son his ear drops. When we started to give him his ear drops, he started crying loudly and wildly. I didn’t know what to do, but the doctor told us to give him the drops when we got home. After I had got him down to sleep I went downstairs and took some time to read over the instructions to ensure I was doing the m right.
As I was reading the directions, it had stated that I needed to warm the ear drops in the palm of my hands before using them. If that is not done then the person who is getting the drops will feel dizzy and loopy because of the temperature differences. I was very upset that CVS didn’t have that step on the bottle nor didn’t tell us when we were at the pharmacy.
I am thinking about switching to a different pharmacy that I might be able to trust more. I was let down and had put my son in pain when I was giving him the drops without warming them. Thanks CVS for hurting my son and making him in pain!
