I made the mistake of listening to the TV and magazine advertisements that made DirecTV looked to be far superior than both cable TV and the Dish network. I signed up for a plan that gave me to DVR’s and all the channels except for the premium HBO, Cinemax and Showtime channels. It was weird when I first signed up that they kept trying to put me from one package to another and then back to another – that sounded really shady.
Anyhow so I signed up for DirecTV and about a week later I received the DVR’s and whatever electrical equipment that they needed to hook it up at my house. The phone reps stated that once I receive the equipment to call and they would send a local installation expert over. I did know this at the time but the local installation expert is actually just some local crackhead. Literally, when the guy showed up at my house he’d either just smoked crack or meth and reeked of it.
Not only did he reek of the drugs, but he also smelled of bad body odor and other nasties. Just standing near him made me want to throw up and hurl. Fortunately I didn’t have to stand near him for too long. He was pretty quick and installed everything lightning fast – probably because he was on crack or meth.
Once he had them up and running he left. He didn’t take the time to show me how anything worked. I guess I had to figure that all out on my own. Well, the first time we tried to use the DVR’s they didn’t work. So I called the customer service number and I was not able to reach anyone and was put on indefinite hold. I have a life and a job so I couldn’t stay on the phone for three hours at a time waiting for them to pick up an answer my problems and questions. So I call back numerous times and not once was I able to speak to someone for over a month.
Only when I had gotten so mad that I decided I wanted to cancel DirecTV because it basically wasn’t working for me was I finally able to talk to someone. And of course their response was that I couldn’t cancel my contract unless I wanted to pay $500 to get out of my contract. I told them that was ludicrous because the DVR’s had not worked since the moment I received them and they were set up by this crackhead installation expert of theirs. They said they don’t have crack heads that work for them. They have supposedly a grueling process they go through before they hire these installation experts – yeah, right. They probably go down the local methadone clinic and see if anyone wants to work and earn a couple of bucks.
My experience with DirecTV has only been bad – let me restate that so were 100% clear here – my experience was terrible! I cannot possibly give a decent review of DirecTV when they send you broken equipment, crackhead installation experts and have the worst customer service in the world. Our review don’t make the mistake of choosing DirecTV. I will not make that mistake ever again.



DirecTV is a great big scam. Who ever heard of a business where they offer you all these different kinds of packages and try to confuse you in order to get your business? A real business wouldn’t employ shady business practices like these and others which DirecTV is well known for. I originally had DirecTV ordered and they sent me broken equipment. It took several weeks to get this fixed and cleared up but they didn’t give me any break in the billing. So I basically had an unusable system for almost 4 weeks and they didn’t give me any credit for that. In my opinion, DirecTV sucks and should definitely be avoided!

DirecTV sends me advertisements and such through the mail almost every day – I wonder how many trees they kill for all the paper they waste each day to do this? I am not interested in DirecTV and never will be and I have told them this many a time, yet the mailings continue.

Hey this is Zach and I do work for DISH but I also am a DISH customer. Just wanted to share this information in case anyone else comes across this site. DIRECTV is tied up in court litigation to face charges of “unfair sales practices” including “hiding fees, planned rate changes and terms that call for automatic renewals”.

DirecTV’s customer service is abysmal. I had installation set up for a four hour window on 1/28/11 and they never showed up of called. We set up another installation on 1/31/11. The apoointment was from 8a-12p and the tech shows up at 1:05pm, needed another 2 hours for the installation. Since DirecTV did nothing about setting up any of the programming I ordered of the DVR activation, it added another hour to the activation.
THEY ARE AN UTTER DISGRACE!!
