Famous Amos chocolate chip cookies review – are they really as good as homemade cookies?

Famous Amos chocolate chip cookies

Famous Amos cookies did not live up to their claim of being like homemade. My wife's cookies easily bested them.

I’m sitting here looking at the box of famous Amos cookies that I just bought earlier today.  It just so happened that there was a dollar off coupon that came in my mail yesterday.  The catch was you had to buy two packages of famous Amos cookies to get the dollar off.  At least it let you pick any two packages of these cookies that you wanted.  They just had to be from Famous Amos.

I’ve never had a Famous Amos cookie nor do I really ever eat any other store brand variety cookies.  You see, I’m kind of spoiled as I married a woman that is an awesome cook and her cookies are usually to die for.  Some sit here looking at this box of Famous Amos cookies.  And right next to it I have a plate of five of my wife’s homemade chocolate chip cookies and six of her oatmeal raisin cookies – there were more, but I have three children and cookies from my wife do not last long in this household.

So I guess I’m kind of going to compare the Famous Amos cookies to my wife’s.  It does say that the Famous Amos cookies have the taste of homemade.  So what better way to see how good they are then to compare them to some really good homemade cookies?  I mean that’s what homemade cookies are all about, right?  In my book, they should be super tasty and taste like they were made right in your own oven.

So I opened up the box and took out a famous Amos cookie.  It was smaller than my wife’s home at cookies, but that is not an indicator of anything because you can make cookies any size you want.  I held up both the Famous Amos cookie and my wife’s homemade cookie.  There was a huge difference in the smell between these cookies or the lack thereof for the Famous Amos cookie.

The famous Amos cookie smelled, felt like and look like your typical store-bought cookie.  They were all the exact same circular shape and did not look homemade at all.  My wife’s cookies were round but none were perfectly round and some were less round than others.   Then I tasted the cookies and there was a world of difference.  The famous Amos cookie was okay, not great nor bad, but okay.  My wife’s homemade chocolate chip cookie was far superior.

And no I’m not saying this because she’s my wife and she wouldn’t speak to me again if I didn’t say that.  The difference here was light years apart.  It was akin to comparing a filet mignon to a hot dog.  There really is no comparison.  So my opinion the Famous Amos cookies definitely do not have the taste of homemade as they say.  Maybe they’re the homemade taste of someone that can’t cook very well, but when you take on the kitchen of a good cook it’s no where even close.

Famous Amos chocolate chip cookies just don’t fare well in a comparison with truly homemade cookies.  They are decent for store-bought cookies but they are definitely not good enough to say they have the taste of homemade.  Maybe my wife should start packaging her own cookies.  She would easily outsell Famous Amos cookies without even breaking a sweat.  No one would buy the Famous Amos cookies once they’ve had a taste of my wife’s truly homemade cookies.

Famous Amos cookies suck. I like the cookies they have at Starbucks and Cariboo cafe. Those are awesome!

Well what do you expect? They’re most certainly not going to taste like they’re made from the man himself! Besides which, homemade cookies are always going to be far superior to the packeged goods at your local grocery store! :P
