George Foreman grill 80 review and complaint

I bought the George Foreman 80\

I love to cook and I love good, healthy food. A friend of mine had a George Foreman grill and was always cooking steaks and hamburgers with it and they always came out tasting great. He showed me how the grease and fat would drip into a pan or container at the bottom of the grill and this is what made the foods that much healthier. So I saw an ad for a George Foreman grill for $29 at my local Big Lots store.

So I went to big lots which is about 7 miles from our house and found that they had one of these George Foreman grills left – must be because this is a very popular item and sells out quickly. So I took the last one they had and I purchased it along with some paper towels and other things that we could use around the kitchen.

I had some frozen hamburger patties in the freezer from Wal-Mart and I set them out to thaw when I got home. Then following the instructions for the George Foreman Grill at perceived to cook them in it. They cooked really quickly and were done in about 10 minutes or so.

They smelled and looked great and I took them out. I put cheese on them, put them in hamburger buns and they made some great cheeseburgers. I must admit I was impressed with how fast the George Foreman Grill cooked and then all you have to do is look at the little plastic catch pan and see all the grease and fat that this grill removed from the hamburger meat.

I used the George Foreman Grill probably two or three times a week over a period of about two months. I cooked lots of hamburgers, hot dogs and even an occasional steak or two. The steaks came out great also. I was very careful in how I took care of the George Foreman Grill and I even got special cleaning pads so as to make sure that it would last as long as possible.

After about two months time I started to notice that the nonstick surface was wearing and chipping away. I had read on the Internet that if this occurs with nonstick materials that it is not safe to use these products anymore. The nonstick coating contains chemicals and compounds that can be very toxic to the human body.

So I’m a little miffed at the fact that I can no longer use my George Foreman grill and only was able to use it for about two months time. Big lots would not do an exchange or refund on it because I’ve had it for over two months. The concept of the George Foreman grill is great the problem is that they use very low quality materials in its construction.

The nonstick coating on the George Foreman grill should not come off with two months of normal use. It wasn’t like I was using it every day. As I stated earlier in this complaint I used it maybe two or three times a week. That’s it and I took great care of it. I was very careful to follow the cleaning instructions that came in it’s box. So now I’m left with a grill that I can’t use. And I can’t return it for a refund or exchange.

We have had the exact same problems and concerns with a mini-Foreman grill we bought at Walmart for a great price. I notice some of their premium grills are “triple coated.” Does that mean you end up ingesting triple the nonstick coating for a premium price?
