The other night I took my girlfriend out to dinner for her birthday to Kobe Hero Japanese Steak and Sushi Bar. I never had been to a Japanese steak house, so I was a little nervous on what to really expect. My family had told me about how they cook right in front of you, so I was very interested to see what the experience would entail.
A week before my girlfriend’s birthday I had made reservations just in case it would be crowded and a long wait time. When we had gotten to Kobe Hero, there weren’t a lot of cars out in the parking lot probably because it was Thursday night. We walked inside and was greeted by a hostess and then was brought into a room and sat around one of the cooking areas.
There was another couple that was also seated around this cooking area which was different but it was nice to interact with other people. Although I would have liked it to be a more personal evening, it was fun to have other people around because the cook was able to interact more personal with all of us.
When we sat down, the waitress came over and asked all of us what we wanted to drink. She was very rude and had a snotty attitude toward us. I was rather upset when she came over to us because we wanted to order an alcoholic mixed beverage and she rolled her eyes toward us when I asked her if they had any drink specials. When she had told us they had $5 margaritas we had ordered a raspberry and a mango margarita. It took her about 10 minutes to bring us our drinks, but we were really excited so we didn’t mind. As we both took a sip, we then both looked at each other and were very disappointed! It was so bad that it tasted like fish water with rubbing alcohol.
I had told the waitress that they tasted funny and that we no longer wanted them. She had told me that she would go check and see what she could do. When we had finished our meal and the waitress brought us our check, she had said “We can take your drinks off the check since you didn’t drink them”. I had thought to myself, “Did she really take my drinks off the bill just because we didn’t drink them”! I would never order an alcoholic beverage with dinner unless it was a bottled beer.
When she had delivered our drinks, she had then brought out a soup that was a light broth soup and really delicious. After we all had eaten our soup, the salads were brought out. As we were eating our salads, our cook had come out and started doing tricks with his utensils. Even though he had dropped his utensils twice, he was very fluent and had done some pretty cool stuff. The remaining courses of egg fried rice, noodles, fresh vegetables, shrimp, and hibachi chicken were amazing and very filling!!! My girlfriend and I had walked out with to-go boxes filled with enough food for an entire meal.
Other than the horrible service, the rude waitress, and the horrible mixed drinks, it was a very cool experience that I would love to encounter again!! I thought it was very cool how they cook right in front of your eyes and the different cooking tricks they performed. I would recommend for everyone to go to Kobe Hero Japanese Steak and Sushi Bar and enjoy the cooking experience we did!
