Lowe’s and Harbor Breeze ceiling fans – are the ceiling fans they sell of good quality and durability?

Lowes home improvement stores

Lowe's home improvement stores sells some pretty crappy ceiling fans.

We bought a house that apparently had no ceiling fans in when it was originally built just a few years ago.  So we went to Lowe’s home improvement store and looked into buying some ceiling fans.  A lot of the ceiling fans they had were made by Harbor Breeze and they had some pretty good prices on them (around and under $100).  So we found several models that we liked for different rooms in our house and bought them from Lowe’s.

Now a few of the ceiling fans that we wanted were not in stock and display models only.  So we had to order them and then pick them up at the store when they came in.  A few of our friends told us to make sure that we open the packages to look for broken glass pieces and parts.  As they had ordered ceiling fans and light fixtures from Lowe’s and found that a few of them have had broken parts probably due to incidents that happened during the shipping process.

The ceiling fans that we ordered came in within two weeks and we went down to Lowe’s to pick them up we had to make two trips in our SUV to get them back to the house.  We were able to open up the packages at Lowe’s but they told us if we found something broken we got to our house that we could get the item replaced or that they would take care of us.

We had them professionally installed by a handyman that we found on Craigslist several years prior and we’ve used them ever since because he is honest and does great work at a very low price – you just can’t beat that.  When he opened up the packages he only found two of the fans had broken parts and we took those broken parts back to Lowe’s and the ordered us replacements for them.

While he waited for the replacements a handyman installed all the other ceiling fans for us.  At first the ceiling fans worked great but within a few weeks all of the Harbor Breeze fans started making some grinding noises or other noises.  We call loads to tell them about this and they said that that was normal for ceiling fans when their new to make some strange noises but that that will go away soon and that this is quite common.

So we waited and after a few months the squeaking and grinding noises did not go away.  We finally called Lowe’s to complain about the grinding and squeaking noises they still were going on and a few of the ceiling fans were actually getting louder as time went on.  These fans sounded like something was seriously wrong with them.  So we called Lowe’s and told him about this and they said there was nothing they could do about it and told us to call Harbor Breeze.

We call Harbor Breeze and were told that we were somehow out of the warranty for these fans and that they would not be able to help us with this situation.  That’s not very nice.  We bought these ceiling fans thinking that we were doing something nice for our house and it turns out we have these noisy, squeaky,  grinding fans that are actually quite annoying.

We have since replaced all the squeaky and noisy fans with higher quality ceiling fans that we purchased from Home Depot.  Yes, these costs more money and some came close to or even over $200 apiece, but in the end we have really nice looking fans that look better and work better and most importantly work quieter than the Harbor breeze ceiling fans we purchased from Lowe’s that apparently have a very crappy warranty.

My advice here is that if you’re going to be buying ceiling fans don’t waste your time and money on the cheap ones they have on sale at Lowe’s.  Go for the higher quality ones and you’ll be happier in the long run every time.  It just so happened in this case that the higher quality ones were not at Lowe’s and they were instead at Home Depot.

They dont cover ANYTHING but the motor. Which U may be in luck. Though they wont cover warped blades on an ‘indoor, outdoor’ fan WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT THE BLADES ARENT SUPPOSE TO DO!!!

Our builder installed several HarberBreeze ceiling fans when we built our house in 2002. The fan in Master bed room has developed a ‘HUM’ lately – No vibration, reversing direction does not help. The noise is getting louder and near impossible to sleep under. The fan is a 52″ copperstone item 53979 – Builders best ceiling fan.
How do I start the process of warranty coverage???

We had a Harbor Breeze for a year. After that year, it would only run on low no matter what position we put it on. Last week we smelled something burning. When we went back to our bedroom, smoke was pouring out of the fan from every crevice. Don’t buy a Harbor Breeze.

We installed a Harbor Breeze in our daughter’s bedroom about five months ago. Fan is so slow on highest speed, you can barely feel it. It hardly moves on lowest speed. All other fans in house are Hunter fans, all are older, and all work perfectly.

Nearly every neighbor who has a Harbor Breeze has a problem with the fan. Conclusion: (1) Harbor Breeze fans are junk. Yes, less expensive, but not worth what we paid for it. JUNK! (2) Home Depot products, returns, and customer service are much better – at least in Dallas/Ft Worth.

I work at a lighting showroom and sell good quality fans, I see people several times a week complaining, about lowes and home depot fans, they look nice and are “cheap”, but once they break, you can never find parts for them. Im serious several times a week I see this. Spend a little more on a fan such as Craftmade, Hunter, or Minka- Aire, that comes with a lifetime warranty. Fans are not suppose to make noise

Bought a Harbor Breeze Model U52MK5WH4 from Lowes and it had a loud hum when turned on before it even started turning. Complained to Lowes and they said contact Harbor Breeze. That was a disaster since their customer service was no help at all and said I should have had a professional install it. It was my fault!! Stuck with it now. Suggest Home Depot and their Hunter and Hampton Bay that carry a lifetime warranty that Home Depot takes care of right in the store. No dealing with the fan customer service at all!
