I used nationwide car insurance because my parents did and I thought that they would be good to me like they were to my parents. Boy was I wrong. I had a 2004 Mustang GT convertible and I was 28 years old. I had no points on my driving record and had decent credit. Somehow nationwide charged me almost as much of my car payment for my insurance payment every month.
I put up with this for several years because I didn’t know any better. Then I saw an ad on TV for Progressive auto insurance and that they supposedly had the cheapest and best rates out there. So I gave them a call and give them my information so they could give me a hard quote. The number they shot back to me at first I thought was a joke because it was so much lower than what nationwide was charging for the exact same coverage.
Actually wasn’t quite the same coverage, to be honest, it was more coverage so I could only imagine how much more Nationwide would’ve charged me for the same level of coverage. Let’s just compare between the two without looking into the fact that progressive gave me more coverage. The difference ended up being between the two car insurance companies about four times.
That means my local Nationwide car insurance representative or agent, whatever you want to call the shyster that was charging me way too much money, had a rate that was 400% higher than that at progressive. Maybe that’s why you see on TV that they have to offer always other little bonuses which are basically meaningless like their disappearing deductible. They need ways to work people into buying their extremely overpriced insurance with clever little gimmicks.
These gimmicks are easily afforded in their vastly over priced insurance rates. When I switched my Nationwide agent told me that he’s only heard bad things about Progressive car insurance and that when an accident happens you need an agent that’s local to you. That is so false. There was just lies because I’ve now had Progressive for several years and I have never had a problem with them ever. I can call the reordered number eight, one in there is always someone there to answer it.
And to be honest with you, they actually had better customer service than Nationwide did. I was involved in a car accident about a year ago and it was the other drivers fault. Even though the other drivers insurance was going to foot the bill for the repairs and everything, the progressive representatives called me to make sure everything was being handled correctly and that all expenses were being taken care of and so forth. They even wanted to make sure that I had a rental car and even told me to call them if I had any problems and that they would help as best they could take care of anything – now that is great customer service!
If anyone is reading this and has Nationwide I advise that you ditch them as soon as you can and shop around and be sure and include Progressive auto insurance in the company’s that you want to look into for better insurance and lower rates.
I was with Progressive insurance and initally had a Galant, I was assured that they were giving me the lowest price for my policy. I switched to Direct and reduced it by $350 each month. I am totally serious, they are crooks.
