Automatic Watering System is a Scam and Doesn't Work!
Are you a woman who loves to have plants outdoors and indoors? Well, I am, but I tend to forget to water my plants, so they do not last very long. I’ve tried making a watering schedule, in which I would water my plants every other day, and that didn’t work out because I would forget what day I watered last because my days all just blend together. I also tried to set the watering can right next to my kitchen sink, but I would eventually get sick of it sitting there and move it, which would then lead me to forget to water them for a short period, but long enough for the plants to wilt from no water.
Well I don’t know about you, but I got fed up with my plants dying because I couldn’t water them all the time. I did some research and I realized that there were automatic watering devices that you could buy for plants! I thought this was the coolest thing ever. Here’s a list of just a few of the devices, the aqua cone also known as the aqua spike, the Plant Genie Mini, and the Aqua Globe. Out of those three I have determined that the Aqua Globe is my favorite, most efficient automatic watering device that I have tried.
For those of you who have never heard of the Aqua Cone (AKA Aqua Spike), I will tell you what it is. I never knew what it was either until I did my research. The Aqua Cone is a hollow spike shaped item made out of plastic that you attach a recycled 2-liter soda bottle to and stick into the soil around/near your plant. One of the positive things about this device is that it allows you to adjust the flow of the water coming out from the spike. This can be done by determining which type of soil you are planting in, sand, loam or clay.
The reason the spike allows for you to choose which type of soil you are using is because some soils are thicker or tend to be more dry than others and may need more or less water. I found this device online in a pack of 6 for $16.99. I personally think that is a little too much to ask for seeing as you only get part of the device because you need to supply the 2-liter soda bottle yourself.
Moving on to the Plant Genie Mini, this is the Dollar Tree brand of the Aqua Globe. The Plant Genie Mini is obviously miniature in size and is only one dollar. I bought these because I wasn’t a big fan of the Aqua Cone. I felt that the Aqua Cone looked very cheap and it wasn’t very pretty. The Plant Genie Mini is made out of blown glass and you can get them in so many different colors.
The purpose of this device is supposed to be that you fill up the long stem with water until it fills up the circular part at the end of the device. After you fill up the device with water you stick it into the soil and it is supposed to slowly empty into the soil as the plants need it. However, these being so cheap, they are not all shaped the same, and some have deformities that cause them not to work at all. So, even though these are cheaper, I do not recommend saving money when it comes to keeping your plants watered.
Given that last paragraph you can probably guess what I am going to say about the Aqua Globe. The Aqua Globe is basically the same device as the Plant Genie Mini except it is a larger device. The Aqua Globe is the name brand product that you can find at pretty much any store now. Because they are the name brand product, they do not tend to have as many deformities as the other off brand products. The Aqua Globes usually come in a pack of 2 for about $9.99. Even though they are more money that the Plant Genie Mini, it is definitely worth spending more money because those Plant Genie Minis should be called the Plant Killer Minis because they will not release any water to supply your plants the nutrients that they may need.
