Presbyterian Hospital and gross overcharging of patients with or without health insurance!

presbyterian hospital charlotte nc

When you see the name Presbyterian it stands for gross overcharging and wrongful billing practices!

I unfortunately had the happenstance of using Presbyterian Hospital in the past. Unlike the other local hospital here, Carolina’s Medical Center (CMC), Presbyterian charges far higher prices for everything and anything that they can. Case in point, five years ago I had a son and it was a normal childbirth at Presbyterian Hospital. Then I had another son two years ago at CMC.

Both of these childbirths were normal and there was no extra anything done. If you’re to compare the bills between the two the items billed for are the same. The difference is the first childbirth had complete hundred percent health coverage. Presbyterian Hospital charge so much that I ended up having to pay $3700 due to their overbilling. Now keep in mind three years later I had another son same normal birth but this time it was at CMC and I did not have health insurance this time, but the cost was only $2500!

That’s right the entire cost of the childbirth for the second son without insurance was $2500! The first childbirth with Presbyterian costs so much that it capped out my insurance coverage and I had to pay an extra $3700. I can only imagine what Presbyterian would’ve charged if I hadn’t had insurance then? $30,000? Probably.

This is why it is so important to shop around and compare hospitals and doctors because the savings could literally be thousands and thousands of dollars for the same service. I ended turning one through the Presbyterian hospital bill and were both outraged at the difference in price between what CMC was charging and what Presbyterian was charging. You’re talking differences in some cases of 1000% difference or more for the exact same services or items.

Now if you were to look into the executive pay and compensation packages of Presbyterian Hospital versus CMC you’ll probably find it’s part of the reason why Presbyterian Hospital charges so much more for the same services. They have to pay for the country club membership fees, limos and all kinds of executive perks plus their million dollar salaries and bonuses and that has to come from somewhere. But it isn’t going to come from me because I will never use Presbyterian Hospital ever again.

I don’t recommend Presbyterian Hospital to anyone unless of course you want to get severely overbilled and help the greatly overpaid executives at Presbyterian keep all their executive perks and big salaries. Instead, I recommend Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) as their prices are far more in line with what they should be and the service is the same if not better.

I totally disagree with this article. Presby. is such a great hospital and even with the poor insurance I have, they worked with me. I even delievered my son there and had amazing service. I would never go to any other hospital but here. They were so great!
