I went to my local BJ’s Wholesale Club and purchased the new easy attach (Quick Connect) Pur water filter system. I also bought an extra pack of six stage III water filters. This came to about $100 for all of it. It was very easy to install it and start using it. The new filtered water tasted pretty good and all went well for a week – then I started having problems with the Pur water filter system.
It seemed to get clogged up at times and the flow through of the filtered water apparently got slower and more reduced as each day went by. I didn’t think that these filters only lasted one week before needing to be replaced. At that kind of rate this Pur water filter was far too expensive of a water filtration system.
If I had known that I was in the go through one of these water filter cartridges every week I would have gone with a under sink mount water filtration system with larger filters that can last from 3 to 6 months before requiring replacement. And when I diddle research I found out that I could’ve gone to Home Depot or Wal-Mart and bought an under sink mount water filtration system that was far better for less money!
Anyways, I replaced the water filter and put in a new one. And guess what? The exact same thing happened again. It didn’t even last one week before barely any water was trickling out of the Pur water filter system. In three weeks time I went through 4 filters and then to top it off the actual Pur quick connect system cracked and started leaking out water everywhere.
There was water coming out the back of the unit and the front of the unit and it was a mix of both filtered water and tap water. This crack was huge and was not something that could’ve been re-sealed or glued or fixed. It was too late to return the item to BJ’s wholesale club – I tried it and called the store manager, but he said it had been too long since I had purchased the product to return it.
I have since replaced the quick connect Pur water filtration system with one from DuPont that mounts underneath my sink. The DuPont unit works perfectly and has better tasting water and far better flow through of filtered water. It costs less then the price I paid for both the pur water filter system and the six stage III replacement cartridges. It works far better and is far more reliable.
If you’re looking to get a water filtration system for your house stay far away from anything with the Pur water filter brand or name on it – their products are pure crap!

Pur water filters suck. I bought a house that had one already installed. It developed cracks and would leak out the front and back. It also went through cartridges way too fast. I switched to a Brita and have not had the problems since.
I had used Pur faucet-mounted filters for years. The older ones were much better. But in the last 4 years, they became lousy. I bought one and within a very short time, there was a crack in it and water came shooting out (around the little window that shows the status of the filter). So I took it back and exchanged it. The next one had the same thing happen…So I exchanged that one…same with the third one AND the fourth. After that, I just got my money back and went to Home Depot and got a GE under-the-counter one that had twin filters. I called Pur and let them know what had happened. I sure hope aerobicsgal also called the company. None of mine were the quick mount Pur. The manager of the BJs was greatly mistaken in not letting you return the filter. 3 weeks is such a short time, and besides, these products had an inherent defect.
We have used the PUR mounted filter for the past 10 years. Even gave them as gifts. This quick connect mount is plastic, the threads strip over time, with the WEIGHT of the unit + filter. I will NEVER purchase another PUR product again. Poorly made, and I believe its “designed obsolescence”. PUR doesn’t offer a replacement quick connect, nor a more durable one. What are you left to do? I think the in-line, under-sink unit is the way to go. Who knows? Perhaps Du Pont, or GE own PUR and put this crap out to finally convince people to go with in-line units.
The mounting adapters get stripped and the high pressure forces the filter to fly off the spout. Lousy product!!
Can’t believe how bad this product is. The first one leaked by the 2nd filter. The piece of shit mounting adapter disintegrated before I used a box of filters. What garbage! They should be put out of business.
I went through 2 of the crome look, also bad design cracked, water came out slow. I took it back to Hardware store they gave me replacements. Then it happed again so I switched to the Blue 3 Stage a little better quality. I does get slow and it started leaking so I replaced the filter B4 it was time and it solved that problem. I have stopped using it all together. My cat won’t drink the water out of the filter. He is my canary in the cave. I just wonder what is in the #3 stage “filtered over natural minerals”? Unable to find contents of those minerals and just where do they originate? By the way my cat drinks the water without the filter.
PUR’s flimsy plastic connector to the sink broke and water spilled everywhere. We have a good MOEN spigot but PUR’s attachment is a cheapout. Why would they make such a poor product? We are out $80 for the device and extra filters. It lasted a month or so. Do NOT buy this or you will be very sorry you did. Keep your receipt if you do. It’s safe to bet you will be returning it soon.
This thing works great. You all are a bunch of whinny little pussies. So shut the fuck up would ya??!
One last thing. You dumb fuckers have a hard water problem. Don’t blame the product you cunts..
