I signed up for the Shell Super Saver gas card about 6-8 months ago in SC because it was supposed to save me big money on my gas purchases. To this date I have yet to be able to use this gas card! What is even more frustrating is to have gone through all the hoops of signing up for a card that’s supposed to save me money however, EVERY Shell station I visit regardless of city or state 100% DENIES the card!!
Today I had enough and decided to call the customer service number located on the back of the card. The representative named, “Chanelle” was all but pleasant. She was rather snippy and condescending in her tone. After three minutes of verifying all of my information, I questioned why the card NEVER works. “Chanelle” informed me that it might be related to various Shell stations updating their software so they would be able to acknowledge the card.
This immediately puzzles me! I am a traveler who during the time I’ve had this card have driven to NC, GA, FL and even back to SC and still have NEVER been able to use this card! I also asked “Chanelle” if a website was available so that I could update my mailing info and she replied, “We don’t have one and because you’ve never actually used the card at least once, we can’t change it in our system”! That’s hog wash and a complete lie.
How in the world is a customer service office of a card company going to tell me that they are not able to change or update their system with a customers’ correct info???? She was lying to me – what kind of customer service is this? Only a scam would operate in this fashion. Due to the poor handling of my inquiry and furthermore NEVER being able to use the card for what it was intended to do which was SAVE ME MONEY on gas purchases, I have since cut the card up and thrown it into the trash!!
Good Riddance and thanks for nothing…SHELL SAVER CARD yeah right!! In the future not only will I not use the Shell super saver gas card I will also avoid all Shell gas stations as I do not support scams and bad customer service.

A Bamboozled Shell gas card Customer

Mine works. I use it all the time at Shell stations all around the country. Make sure you are putting in your PIN when you (or the gas station attendant) swipe the card.
I have had the same problem too. I called the customer service line about it also. The guy I spoke with was very nice. He explained that a particular company does their credit approvals, which you have to have every time you use your debit/credit card (I can’t remember the name of the company they use) was being very strict on their approvals due to fears about identity theft. He told me to continue to try and use the card and once the computer system “sees” that I am not trying to use the card at different stations and in all different cities, they would start approving the transactions. But, I’ve had no luck yet. In fact, I’m kinda fed up with trying and about to cut up the card and send it back to Shell with a letter of explanation, I think. I’m only saving .02 a gallon, so it’s not really worth the hassle. Frankly, I do better using my Kroger card.
I had a mix of both experiences. For a year I have enjoyed the 2cents a gallon discount, and twice gotten the 22 cent discount on “Wins-days.”
Then, a week ago, my card was rejected, first at two stations. I called the number on the back of the card, and basically was told that there was no way it could be their card’s fault, that it must be the pumps. I told them it would not work inside, and they assumed I was not smart enough to know it was a “debit” card.
I tried two other stations this week — all four are stations I have used the card at before. All were rejected. Today, I called again, and got a snobby answer from an operator telling me that my “card has no problem.” I told her that, yes, it obviously does have a problem since it is not working anywhere. She told me again that she was sorry, but there was no problem with my card. I asked her what I could do about this, and she recommended that I get the numbers of the stations and let Shell know about it.
I told her that I was going to do something easier: just cut the card up and look for other stations.
Scam! Here in California I got suckered into the rewards program as well. Here’s a note
If you elect to do a carwash to get the 10 cent off per gallon it is for NEXT time you get gas. You have to go in an purchase the carwash Seperately in order to receive the discount then and there.
Also the shell station here in Santa Cruz off 7th and soquel alway has a higher price at the pump than the advertised, usually about 4 cents higher. I would post pics if I could. When asking the staff they always state the are in the process of changing the sign… Talk about false advertisement
