My wife and I purchased a home that was previously owned by people that like loud and strange colors. Obviously the house need to be repainted to be more normal. It was pretty bad there was a bright red room that was all red. The girl room was all pink and green and the previous owners even painted the windowsills to match – can we say gross? So I went to the local Sherwin Williams Paint Company store off South Blvd. in Charlotte North Carolina.
I figured that at the Sherwin-Williams paint store they would be able to recommend a good painter and a good wallpaper person. When I went in there and inquired they gave me two people to call one for painting and one for wallpapering. The manager of the store highly recommended both.
So we called the wallpaper guy first and had him come over and do three of our rooms. I didn’t know what the going prices were for having rooms wallpapered so I OK’d whatever this guy said because the manager at Sherwin Williams Paint store said he was honest and that he personally recommended the guy and had him wallpaper his own house. I later found out that that not doing a little research of my own was a big mistake.
The guy ended up charging me 4 times the going rate for wallpapering here in Charlotte North Carolina. Not only that but within a few months the wallpaper started to sag and come loose in areas. This was deftly not a good-quality wallpapering job. I called the guy to come back and fix it and he did come once and fixed one section and then said he had to go to another job and he would be back. He never came back and never returned my calls again.
Then we had the painter whom had already started halfway through the wallpapering process on the other rooms. I have to say the painter’s prices were pretty good when I went and actually compared them. But the nightmare with the painter started when they were cleaning up and down with their work. They had leaked into our rugs in numerous rooms. They had also gotten paint on the stairs and on our couch amongst other things.
The painters also somehow managed to put a huge scratch on our stainless steel refrigerator with their belt buckle. Of course the painter said that that was there before and which was a complete lie. The painter did come back with a Bissell hand held carpet shampoo machine and tried to remove their paint spills in the rug.
And when they couldn’t, guess what happened? They found an excuse to leave (their mother was sick and in the hospital) and they had to leave. Guess what happened next? Same thing as with the wallpaper guy they never return phone calls and never came back to fix the paint spills in the rugs.
My advice here is to never go to Sherwin-Williams paint stores to ask for advice or recommendations from local area painters or wallpaper people (hangers). I ended up having to have everything redone from a professional paint company and the price was actually far less than the people Sherwin Williams recommended.
