Testors Shelby Series 1 metal model kit review – this kit was easy and a lot of fun for my 5 year old son!

Testors Shelby Series 1 metal model kit review

This is the exact kit we purchased at Tuesday Morning. It was easy to put together and my son absolutely loves it.

I was at the Tuesday Morning store the other day and my five-year-old son found a car model kit that he wanted. It was by Testors – a company that I knew well – I used to build their models 25 years ago when I was about 10 years old. It was a metal body model of a Shelby Series 1 super sports car.

I looked for the age range on the box and it said eight years plus, but when I saw the very simple instructions on the back I knew this would be something easy and fun to build with my son. It couldn’t be that bad there was only eight steps in the entire directions and half of them were for putting on each of the four wheels.

It was also a great deal – the retail price was $9.99, the sale price was $7.99 and the Tuesday Morning price was $4.99. When I used to buy these kits when I was 10 years old I remembered them costing between $5 and $10 and that was back 20 or more years ago. So to be able to buy these kits today at the same price or less than they used to sell for 20+ years ago is a great deal in my book!

I thought it was going to be cheap and cheesy, but when we got it home and opened up the box and took out all the parts it was actually pretty cool little model kit. It literally took us about two minutes to put it together. The only tools I needed to use was a hammer and a screwdriver.

The kit came with a little screwdriver, but I opted to use my own as mine had a magnetic tip and it was easier to hold the tiny screws in place. If you get one of these kits definitely use a screwdriver with a magnetic tip – it makes it so much easier to place the little screws in their proper little holes.

Once we were done with putting the kit together my son played with it for several hours until he finally grew tired and then he wanted to take it to bed and even created a special place on his pillow for it. It sounds like he really likes this new toy and what’s really cool in my book is it was easy to do and it is now something that we built together.

Maybe the boys and I will have to do more models like this Testors model kit in the future.
