I saw all the hype on TV and on YouTube about the almost cult like popularity of the Snuggie wearable blanket. It appeared everyone loves this thing and it’s only about $20 at the store so I bought one for myself and one for my wife. No I did not go and buy one for my kids or for the dogs, I wanted to try Mann for us first and then if we liked it and thought it was really cool we might then buy them for the kids.
That night we tried them on and snuggled on the couch. They weren’t exactly the most fashionable items out there as the kind of make you look or feel like a Buddhist monk, but they were fairly comfortable and kept you nice and warm as long as you didn’t turn over too much as the backside is quite open. It’s basically a blanket with sleeves. The fleece that it is made out of is kind of cheap and the equivalent that you would find in a 5 to 10 dollar blanket.
The price that I paid for each of the Snuggies was $20. Now I bought them at a local store and I don’t remember exactly what the price was on TV but I’m sure that it had to be that or higher. But I have far nicer and more comfortable blankets than the Snuggies. Having a robe like blanket with sleeves to walk around in really doesn’t offer me anything that I’m interested in.
I don’t walk around the house feeling cold and needing a blanket to wear with me. I only want a blanket when I’m in bed laying down. My wife feels exactly the same way. Now maybe if I lived in really cold climate that might be a neat idea on a lazy Saturday or similar, but am a very active and busy person and I do not want a blanket unless I’m going to sleep.
Now the quality of the Snuggies is kind of lacking and as I said it is basically a poor or low quality fleece blanket. For half the price of a Snuggie I can go to Marshall’s, TJ Max or Ross’s and get a far better quality and much more comfortable blanket. You can just tell the difference by feeling a high-quality blanket and then feeling the Snuggie. For $10 I can get top-quality blanket that I would love and that fits me better and is longer and covers two people instead of one.
I imagine before too long you’ll be able to get the Snuggie at stores like Marshall’s, T.J. Maxx or Ross’s, but for the price you are far better off getting a really nice, high-quality blanket that fits the whole bed. Besides there’s actually nothing sexy about the Snuggie. It is more of a turn off then a turn on. It’s kind of reminiscent of a hospital gown you walk around in it. So it’s kind of like a cross between a hospital gown and a monk’s outfit – definitely not anything sexy there.
So I’m not saying the Snuggie is horrible, but in my opinion I don’t see any need or reason to buy a $20 Snuggie when you can buy a far better blanket that gives better coverage and is far more comfortable for half the price.
