I was on the internet about 4 days ago looking for desktop computers. I was in the market because my piece of crap Dell computer hit the fan and crashed. I only had the computer for about 3 years and the entire time I had it, I had nothing but trouble with it. So, that caused me to look into buy a new desktop, but I really need something that wasn’t too expensive.
I first started looking at Wal-Mart because you can always count on cheap things from Wally World. I took a look at some of the models that they offered but most of them were Acer and Gateway computers. I didn’t feel comfortable with these names and I really wanted to stick with the HP brand name. I decided that I would continue looking around.
As I continued on researching, I found a store called Hhgregg. I later found out that they offered an amazing warranty protection plan on their computers. It would cost me $299 for an extra protection plan that included accidental protection. This means in case you dropped, smashed, or somehow spilled liquids in your computer, they would be able to fix or completely replace your computer. I was very excited to hear that a warranty protection plan like this was so cheap.
Even though I really wanted to stick with Hhgregg and the warranty plan, I needed something that was in the low couple hundred dollars range. I decided to look up auction sites because I heard that you could pick up cheap refurbished item for really cheap online. I found a site called Ubid Online Auctions. I decided to look at some of the computers they had for auction and I found a couple HP desktop computers.
On Ubid Online Auction, all the auctions start at $1 and increase on the $1 increment. I happened to see a combo deal, HP DC7600 Ultra Slim Pentium 4 + L1706 17″ LCD Combo. This looked to be a perfect computer for me so I decided I would take a look and see what the bids were up to the next day and go from there.
When I woke up in the morning, the winning bid had gone up to $24 and the remaining time was 9 hours. I then came back later to see what the totals were at and it was $90. I decided that I couldn’t pass up this great bidding opportunity so I signed up quick and I put a bid in for $112, but then was out bided. There was 10 minutes left and my last bid was beat so I placed a bid for $121.
Ubid Online Auction’s policy is that if there is any bid placed within 10 minutes, there is a time frame called “overtime”. This means that their needed to be no more bids placed for another 10 minutes. It turned out to be I was the winner due to no bids placed in the overtime period. With the shipping costs, tax, and the winning bid, I was able to get a refurbished HP computer with a flatscreen 17’ LCD monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
Not only did I get a great deal, my computer was delivered to my doorstep in 2 days!! I have set it up and everything works just like a brand new computer. This was an amazing deal and I am so glad that I was able to find ubid.com! I would highly recommend this online auction site to anyone that wants a great deal and great quality products!
I would agree that U-Bid is a terrific site to get some nice deals. I would caution that you have to be patient and if a product goes higher than you are willing to pay, just continue to watch and bid on the next item. Over the years, I have used several other bidding websites and many have disappeared. I often wonder why these sites don’t last. But I continue to hope that sites like U-Bid will stay for awhile.
For many on-line shoppers, auction sites are now more popular than ever. I have recently seen where tickets for special events such as Chicago Cubs front row auctions have taken off. I am also seeing concert events that offer a meet and greet to the artist and front row seats to the show. These auctions sell for a large value, but if I were wanting to meet my favorite group or artist, this would be the way to go.
The one part of auctions I do not like is the minimum bid. If this is a small reasonable number, then fine. But making it a value where a minimum bid is not even going to happen can be very frustrating.
