I used to work right inside these doors greeting everyone with a smile until one day I was fired for being a lesbian!
I was a Wal-Mart greeter up until last year. I loved my job and was okay with it even though the pay was really quite horrible. I was making ends meet through welfare and my lover’s paycheck (she also worked at Wal-Mart). But then Wal-Mart decided to take the point of view that they didn’t like lesbians anymore. I am not flamboyantly gay as some of the other workers at Wal-Mart are – especially a few of the guys that I know there that are more feminine than most females. Yes, I am gay and I’m a female and I prefer women. This is not just a choice I made out of the clear blue sky. I was born this way. Since I can remember my earliest memories are of me liking the female form. Yes I had tried to be straight and dated men, but I was never really happy until I met my soulmate a few years ago.
It was kind of a weird circumstance as my boyfriend at the time was a swinger and I was okay with that as long as I didn’t have to get too involved in it. We would go to these parties and was funny as people would actually write their names on a piece of paper and the men would put their piece of paper in one bowl and that women would put in another bowl. Then after we sat and had drinks roll but never one to know each other a little bit more the women would go and take a name out of the men’s bowl and take that person and basically sleep with them. But where it got interesting is when there was more men or women and there was unequal paring between the two. In cases of unequal paring the lucky last picked guy would end up having two companions instead of one.
Well anyway this is what happened to me and it just so happens that the other female that was accompanying me and this guy turned out to be my fufture soul mate. Yes we took care of the guy too but we really took care of each other and haven’t stopped since. Well enough about how I became gay and I’m comfortable with the fact that I am gay (a lesbian). But that doesn’t give Wal-Mart the right to fire me just because I prefer women. Ever since I came out of the closet one day a few years ago when my lover came into Wal-Mart and brought me flowers and gave me a big kiss, Wal-Mart frowned upon my lifestyle and would jump at the chance to write me up or discipline me over the slightest infraction even if they were incredibly questionable.
Whereas before everyone at my local Wal-Mart loved me, now the management was out to fire me and it was becoming blatantly obvious. One time I turned in an employee, whom it turned out was one of the managers friends, for swiping a few cans of chewing tobacco. This individual didn’t get in any trouble what so ever and instead I got a writeup over it. Now that’s ridiculous, but it gets worse. One time I was reading a customer’s receipt because the door alarm had gone off indicating that something may not have been paid for. I went over the receipt and it turned out they had a box of diapers and it was not on their receipt. They tried to leave and I held them there until management came over and took over. I was sent home and told that they would call me. They never did. The next day I called in to see if I was supposed to come back and was going on and I was told by a friend that works there that I had been fired.
This is just not right and now I even read in the news that someone else was fired for a very similar thing – they caught a shoplifter and got fired over it. That is unbelievable. We were basically doing our job for Wal-Mart and they just decided that we were undesirable. In my case it was because I was a lesbian I don’t know what the other person’s case was, but that’s intolerable and should be against the law. Wal-Mart’s excuse was that it was hidden somewhere in their work policy and rules. I wasn’t given a copy of that when I started there and I know that for a fact. This is just not right and someone needs to sue Wal-Mart over this and correct this matter.

Uhm, there’s something called the American Civil Liberties Union or ACLU for short that handles matters like this. If your claim is genuine and within your state’s statute of limitations then you clearly have a case and they would get you millions from Walmart in a civil liberties lawsuit. Being gay should not be counted against you and it is a protected class. Also you might want to talk to some attorneys. If this really did happen you could walk away with literally millions in a lawsuit. My advice is to get an attorney.

You go girl! Don’t listen to the haters! I just came out of the closet with my friends and families encouragement and it takes a lot. It’s hard being gay. People look at you funny, talk behind your back and so on. I know my employer doesn’t like me because I am gay, but that’s too bad . They have to deal with it. If I were you I would hire a big attorney and sue Walmart into the ground. For you I will Boycott Walmart and any other gays should do the same. We need to stand up to companies that discriminate against gays and lesbians. We are all in this together! Again, you go girl! I am proud of you!

Well, they should have and I would have to. God didn’t create women to become lesbians. He created women to love men. No where in the bible does it mention that being gay is acceptable – it is a sin instead. You need to accept Jesus Christ as your savior and repent your wicked ways and he will forgive you.
Remember God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve…

Screw you dude and the ground you walk on. I am gay and that is perfectly normal. Don’t quote your Bible at me you loser. God created us all equally and whether I prefer men or not doesn’t make me any lesser in God’s eyes. If God didn’t like Gays or want people to become Gay then he would have made it so that I wasn’t gay and didn’t prefer men. Remember God is perfect and is inapable of making mistakes. So if I’m not a mistake than what am I? Leave the lady alone. It’s her choice to be a lesban just like its my choice to be gay. Grow up and find some other tree to bark up.

I got fired from Wal-Mart and I didn’t even work there. I received a phone call about a month ago from my local Wal-Mart and they told me that I was fired and not to bother coming back. They were going to mail me my paycheck. I asked him since when haveI worked there? They told me to stop playing silly games and it was over and that the final paycheck would be mailed to me. I told them that if they wanted to pay me for not working there that’s fine – I told him that I never worked there and that they couldn’t even pay me to work there! I work as a substitute teacher for the local public schools. Why would ever consider working for minimum wage at Wal-Mart?
What a bunch of idiots that work at Wal-Mart – their management can’t even figure out who works there and who doesn’t. Aren’t they supposed to keep records of who works there? I have never worked at Wal-Mart and never filled out an application to work at a Wal-Mart. The funny part is they actually did mail me a check to my name. Bad thing is it wasn’t for very much. It was for $35! Oh well.

In 2005 The Indiana Assembly made it illegal to fire someone for being gay/lesbian. This is the group of gay and lesbian attorneys you need to call to sue and get your job and / or a LOT of money.

this story is very close and very personal since my sister was just terminated by wal-mart as well and she too is gay. its amazing how every one loves you until you get under there skin and then you go from an a plus associate to management then you get your verbal, your coaching and your famous d-day oops and then your last day of work where you are fired. our story needs to be told and many need to be held accountable for there actions as well. i think one of the greatest lines she heard from an assistant manager was, gay pride was coming to town and she wanted to go so badly she was honest enough to ask for the time off and her assistant said quote “sure you can go as long as you tell them how i feel” its amazing how if you are at the bottom of the totem pole your words are nothing and if you are above the pole you are free to say and do as you feel. some how this to me is ethically and morally wrong. our story is so unbelievable that it would simply cover the entire site so unfortunately this is all i can say right now. i feel so over whelmed with the pain of this. i think its extremely hard for gays and lesbians to live as close to the definition of normal in today’s society as it is that its just plain fullish to add more fuel to the fires that surround them. so what can i do to get this on the right road for every one?

Walmart sucks. I used to work there and the management was busy sleeping around with all the new interns and associates. It was like a great big orgy or free for all. At Wal-Mart it really is true that one can sleep their way to the top.

Thanks for sharing, but I’m a lesbian and WalMart loves me. Maybe you were too forward or something and they found that offensive?

I hope you get something good out of this, you shouldn’t have been fired over that.
