Walgreen’s pharmacy – incorrectly filled prescription and they refused to fix it!

Walgreens pharmacy complaints

Walgreen's pharmacy miscounted my prescpription pills and shorted me 7 pills and refused to correct their mistake!

I recently went to the Walgreens pharmacy as I had always done and ordered and got the refill for my prescription medication. When I got home and opened it to take one as I’m supposed to do once a day I noticed it didn’t look right. It looked like there wasn’t the same amount of pills that there usually was.

The pills were the correct kind so that was not the problem. The problem was it didn’t look like there were 30 pills like there were supposed to be. So I emptied them out on the counter being careful to make sure none spilled on the floor. And I counted them. I counted 23 pills. Not 30 like there was supposed to be.

I immediately called the Walgreens pharmacy to tell them that I was short seven pills on my prescription medication. They said that is not possible and that they have procedures in place to make sure everyone gets exactly what they’re supposed to with their prescriptions. So I told him I’ll come back and show them the bottle and the fact that it does only have 23 pills in it.

Now this was inconvenient because I did not have a car and I had to take the city bus. Plus the Walgreens is not exactly right on the bus line. It’s about a mile and a half walk from the nearest bus stop and it was an extremely hot day outside that day. But I took the trip anyway and went to the Walgreens to prove to them that I had a bottle that only had 23 pills in it.

So I got to the Walgreens, even though I was a little sweaty from the long walk and bus ride, and after waiting in line because there were few people in front of me at the pharmacist, I finally got to tell the pharmacist assistant the situation with the pills and showed her my bottle.

She said that when it left their store it was packaged with 30 pills in it and that they cannot give me seven more pills without my doctor’s approval. Plus they would have to charge me extra anyway to cover the expense of the seven extra pills. I could only wonder what happened to the seven pills that were missing?  So basically I’m screwed because there is no avenue for me to go to to correct this issue and get the seven extra pills I am supposed to have per my doctor’s prescription and I actually paid for.

Well, there currently is a serious problem with their procedures at Walgreens and I will not be going back to their pharmacy ever again after this experience.  Those pills cost around five dollars each so that means I am missing $35 worth of medication that I’m supposed to be taking and I paid for.  Fortunately, there is a new Wal-Mart with a pharmacy located much closer to me that has just opened.  I will be going there from now on and not to Walgreens.

I hate Walgreens, they always seem to mess up prescriptions and never get things right. I always go to CVS and truly believe in them as a pharmacy!

I am starting to see a pattern here. I picked up my brother’s scrip a couple of days ago, and when he opened the package and counted it it was missing 10 pills. When he called the pharmacy and reported the problem they told him there was no way that they made a mistake, and that I must have stolen them from him. This isn’t the first time they have shorted him either, but it’s usually just a couple of pills. This was more than 10% of his prescription. Luckily for him they said they would compensate him, but from now they would have to count them out in front of him. I can’t believe they had the nerve to say that I had stolen from MY OWN BROTHER. Walgreens needs to realize that either they are hiring MORONS or DRUG ADDICTS or BOTH. Unfortunately, Walgreens is the only pharmacy my insurance is good through.

Had a prescription filled on 11/30 at a new Walgreen’s in Modesto CA.
Was shorted 15 days (30 pills) worth of Cipro. Pharmacist said it was counted correctly and nothing could be done about it..Said “Is someone else taking medication?” Told her only my wife and I live here and it’s not her.

Fyi…. You should have had them count their pills to make sure their inventory was correct. It would have shown an overage on their part if you were shorted.

I too was just shorted 3 pills, oxycodone, by Walgreen’s in Florida. I thought it was a little short the month before, so I counted them this time, four times to be exact. I called and was told they’re counted twice and weighed. I didn’t ask for the shorted pills, nor to be reimbursed, I just wanted record of itin their system. There is no point in asking them to count their inventory if someone is taking them for theirself.

Okay here’s my problem, on 2/3 my husband whom has two fractured vertebrae and received these horrible, painful injections was prescribed Oxycodone 5/325. I took to pharmacy that day to fill and long story short throughout the weekend my husband was in extreme pain and starting detoxing he didn’t even know what was wrong with him…. well Monday at 4am “he wont let me sleep” cause of his agony it dawned on me to ck the meds well to my surprise they gave him Tylenol 3 with codeine!!!! I am appalled at this point, he is detoxing and cant move cause of his back and of course ate them pills like tic tacs thinking it would eventually help him with his complete misery!!! So I go to cvs and they say it’s impossible their counts are correct and they had the NERVE to think we swapped out the meds!!!!!!!!! Then the pharmacist said to me she would call a dr friend to fill the script illegally “at this point she is scared shitless”!!! can u believe it????!!!! Help I don’t know what to do , there is now an internal investigation within cvs but what r they gonna do offer us a 20.00 gift card!!! hahahahaha funny one… I am so appalled this could even happen. Note to all always ck your meds before u leave especially if narcotics or u will be in a world of hurt! any and all advice would be appreciated! Thanks

I too had shortages of a controled substance. The first time I called and reported it to the manager, explaining I did not want the three pi;s but wanted her to know so she could monitor her employees.
The second time my husband went to the store and argued with the manager to get the four tablets we were shorted.
This time i reported them to the state agency in charge of these things. I have had several letters asking me to come back, but I am transferring to CVS. I cant keep paying for shortages. But worse,my physician is thinking I am taking too many. And I am left holding the empty bottles and being labled. Walgreens has a huge problem with their counting methods and someone sould look into this.

I had a prescription filled at Walgreen’s for 90 qty. and they only gave me 60 qty. They shorted me 30 pills and refused to correct the mistake. I never count my pills. I just noticed that the bottle was not full, as it usually is when I get this same prescription filled. I paid for the 90 qty., but now I am short 30 pills—why are these not recounted by a second person? I need my medication, so I can work—so, I have to suck it up!!!! This is Walgreen’s error and they should correct it!!!! they know me very well at that Walgreen’s, I will change to another pharmacy.
