Ezinearticles and article submissions suck. Use the content yourself on your own site for far better results!
Years ago I used to use Ezinearticles.com to try and drive traffic to my fledgling websites. Back then I was a newbie to the Internet and I didn’t know any better. Now I do and I can tell you without any hesitation that submitting articles to ezines like Ezinearticles, Searchwarp and others is a complete waste of time. The only person that makes any money when you submit articles is the e-zine owner itself.
Just go and take a look at any article on Ezinearticles.com. You will see literally tons of links for Google Ad sense, Chitika and others. Yes the author of the article gets one or two tiny little links to their own website, but these links are basically buried inside all the other ones and guess what? That means the majority of the traffic that is going to click on anything will click on the ads and not on the author’s box links that you place at the end of the article.
I can tell you is your experience because I’ve actually posted thousands of articles on websites like Ezinearticles and Searchwarp. The results were between pathetic and horrible. And no it’s not that I can’t write or that I don’t know how to write an effective author’s box. I can do both of those very well and have. The problem here is that submitting articles is a losing game.
The reason why it’s a losing game is because if you were to take those same articles and put them on your own website or blog you would have 1000% increase in traffic from these exact same content. Why would you want to go and give away your content to a ezine for vastly inferior results? I know numerous websites and can tell you from personal experience that regardless of the niche that you’re in you will always do phenomenally better by using your content for your own websites.
Now Google, on the other hand, has basically smacked down websites like Ezinearticles and others because a lot of their content is highly plagiarized, duplicate or poorly rewritten. You can easily tell this by going onto Ezinearticles.com and looking up almost any finance related article. You’ll see hundreds or even thousands of articles that look almost the exact same and are terribly rewritten.
Google sees this as duplicate content and does not index it. So, where in the past Ezinearticles enjoyed a sitewide page rank of 6 they now have almost every page with zero page rank. This means their pages for the most part don’t rank very well anymore. What this boils down to is Google doesn’t want crap in their index and ezines like Ezinearticles.com are loaded down with hundreds of thousands of pages of worthless crap.
Now if you can’t write and are looking to make money by plagiarizing others (which I hope is not the case, but if it is you need to find a new interest) than maybe Ezinearticles is for you. But if you write great quality unique content then you are wasting your time and need to go put that on your own website. If you don’t have a website they are easy to create. Just take out a domain name and a host (like GoDaddy or hostgator) and then load in Word press and you’re set to rock.
Then it’s just up to you and how much quality content you add to it. Try it and do it yourself. Put your content to work for yourself on your own website. You’ll see quickly that there is a huge difference and you will have far greater rewards for the same efforts. It never phases to amaze me how many people out there can’t figure this one out and still continue to give their unique content to these ezines like Ezinearticles.com.
I will say it one more time for those that are a little slow out there – use your own content for yourself and do not give it away to others through sources like Ezinearticles.com. The real wealth on the Internet is not in building websites for others it’s in building them for yourself. By giving away your content you’re only enriching the owners of the ezines like Chris Knight of Ezinearticles.com.
I have written and submitted over 25 articles to Ezinearticles.com and the results were not very good as of yet. I made 3 sales of my ebook and have gained maybe 35 visitors per day. The problem is that the visitors or traffic I get from Ezinearticles is very poor, non-converting traffic. You are right and I need to create a blog or something and fill it with my own articles and try that instead. This Ezinearticles thing just isn’t doing it for me.

I think you are right. I have submitted over a thousand articles to Ezinearticles.com and they get less and less traffic everyday. I think that Google sees Ezinearticles as spam and badly written content so they do not rank very well for anything. Its basically a big collection of crap and I don’t want to be associated to that.

You are so right!!! More and More things are sucking!-As you put it. The thing that bugs me the most is that I knowingly was giving them GREAT content and they were treating me like Gold. Then one day they advertised to me, strongly suggesting I become a PAID member. They think I mad a ton of money through them because of so many readers and good page ranking. But it didn’t work that way. I MADE a little, but Not Enough TO GIVE THEM OVER HALF A GRAND TO CONTINUE BEING RAPED BY THEM! (I knew all of what you wrote about only making them rich and still did it. No choice at the time.) I wrote back explaining that I am poor and this is (& it is) My beginning as a writer. Next thing you know I am being Treated Horribly. Oh, but they still TAKE my articles. Just no more front page views on their site, they do so whenever they want regardless of my status. and now with their not getting anymore Google Luv, My business is in trouble. I am taking your advice and giving them the boot. You are so right about them SPAMMER Jerks who rip off Some Hard Working writers and reward others. Great Site Keep up the Good Work.

The thing that I like about Ezine articles is that I can pretty much put anything I want up there. So I get to practice over and over again writing a certain type of article, and post those practices on ezine every time and get a backlink. Then once I’ve really got everything together and I’m ready to write my final thoughts, I put it on my own blog. Just my perspective; I appreciated your post on this.

Ya I have to agree that the traffic from ezinearticles is practically worthless. I wanted to ask if you think it helps for getting backlinks and the improving rank of your website or do you see that as pretty much worthless as well?

Do you know anything about SEO? Ezinearticles is an AUTHORITY site and still has a high PR. The only thing you are right about is that google has slapped certain articles; mainly ones with no links built to them. You also have to do good keyword research to get your articles ranked. Don’t expect to rank an article for a term that has 1,000,000 competition. I am not even a fan of ezinearticles, there are others that will rank your articles just as well. Ezine makes you jump through too many hoops. The only thing that is good is the initial traffic ezinearticles content always gets.
I have built huge mailing lists with just using article directories.

I find myself disagreeing with the post and comments. But at the same time I agree. Strange.
The biggest problem most people have is that they don’t know how to use the site. They use vaguely targeted keywords and wonder why the traffic doesn’t convert. They write hundreds of articles and submit them in the wrong place instead of just writing a few highly targeted articles that seek out buyers and placing them in categories where they can thrive.
And there is no rule that says you can’t put the same articles you submit on your own web site. A title change and a new first paragraph will give you a whole new article as far as Google goes.
If you don’t know what you are doing at EZA.com, it can be a waste of time. But if you know what you are doing, it can pay off big. Probably because almost everyone is off wasting their time with misguided efforts doomed to fail from the beginning.
The problem is not ezinearticles.com. It is marketing methods that will fail no matter how you try to do them. You keep on doing your keyword research and all that other junk. Give them the information they seek. Tell them about a product that will help. I will be there on EzineArticles.com waiting for them when they are ready to buy it.

I think you are right – I just searched a bunch of articles on ezinearticles and they are all a bunch of bad rewrites. It s pure spam. No wonder most of it doesn’t rank worth a crap anymore on Google. Google doesn’t like spam.
